This game showed the world that innovative, “gimmicky” games don’t have to be side-shows to the classics – they can outshine them. The Evolution Live Lightning Roulette was a game-changer in that regard. It also spawned some “spin-offs”.

Live Lightning Dice by Evolution is a simple dice-based live dealer casino game with multiplier mechanics. Like the Roulette game it’s inspired by, it focuses on almost game show-like spectacle and entertainment.

HOW TO PLAY

Though it may seem like a version of Sic-Bo from the outside, the Evolution Lightning Dice game is very different. Sure, you’re betting on the outcome of a 3-die roll when you play Lightning Dice online, but the bets are vastly different.

Essentially, you have 16 possible options. What you’re trying to predict is the sum total result of all 3 dice. So, for example, if the dice turn up as a 2, a 3, and a 6, the result is 11. As such, your betting options range from 3 to 18.

Of course, this means that different bets have a different chance of success. 3 and 18 are extremely unlikely, while 10 and 11 are the most common results. This, in turn, determines the payouts, which we’ll get to later.

  • The bet’s riskiness also affects how big the lightning multiplier can be. For instance, only 3 and 18 can be hit by a 1,000x multiplier.
  • The key to a good Live Lightning Dice strategy is bet-hedging. The minimum profit is 5x, so betting on more than one outcome is almost always worth it.
  • A number hit by a lightning multiplier pays out only the multiplier. For example, a 5x bet with a 25x bonus multiplier only pays out 25x, not 125x.

EXTRA FEATURES

This game got the name due to the lightning bonus feature, which was lifted over from Lightning Roulette. After betting time is over, the dealer will pull a switch that randomly assigns multipliers to some of the bets. The multiplier is randomly decided, as is the number of affected bets – between 1 and 5.

Depending on the bet’s riskiness, the multiplier can only go up to a certain number. For instance, safe Lightning Dice bets like 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13 can only go up to 50x. 6, 7, 14, and 15 can be multiplied up to 100x. 5 and 16 are limited to 250x, 4 and 17 can get up to 500x. Finally, 3 and 18 can be multiplied by a whopping 1,000x.

Importantly, Evolution Live Lightning Dice multipliers do not stack with a bet’s base value. If you win with a multiplied bet, you’ll only receive the assigned multiplier as your return.

We should also note that we expressed odds here as the game did. These multipliers include the original stake. So, for instance, a 5x payout would be expressed as 4:1 in classic betting odds.

Another important note is that lightning multipliers do not return the stake, for some awful reason. For example, if your multiplied returns state that they are 50x, they are actually 49x. This only applies to the lightning strike feature, though.

What this game has in presentation and engagement it lacks in mechanics. The overall RTP rate leaves something to be desired at 96.21%, but that’s not the worst part. The game simply lacks variety when it comes to bets – it’s like a gutted version of Sic Bo. For example, the lack of safe bets can leave you with no profits for long stretches of time.

It’s not Evolution’s best work, but it does bear their trademark stamp of quality. We simply feel that it could be a lot better with a little more work.
