When it comes to special game features, NetEnt chose not to go overboard in Golden Realms. There are Wilds, Free Spins, as well as three Special Features, and Scatters.

Wilds replace all icons on the grid except for Scatters. Moreover, they appear both in the base game and Free Spins.

Special features are random features that are triggered completely randomly in the base game (and free spins). If you manage to trigger more than one – or all three – they will appear in the following order –

Random Wilds is a random booster in which you get from 5 to 9 Wilds on the grid. These Wilds will naturally trigger some wins, which will produce a big win (hopefully).

Meteor Splash is a random booster where one type of icon is chosen as the special icon for the spin. The chosen symbol will then expand on the grid to cover all of its adjacent icons, as well as icons adjacent to those symbols! Lastly, Fire Multipliers add Multipliers to 5-13 random icons on the grid. The values of Multipliers are between 1x and 5x. When you activate it, a random icon will create a blast in one of four direction increasing multipliers in its path by 1x. Once the blast ends, all values are added together and paid out as one giant win.

Ultimately, the game also boasts Free Spins. To trigger Free Spins, collect Scatters. You can get 3, 4, or 5 Scatters to get 10, 15, or 20 Spins, respectively. You cannot retrigger the feature as Scatters do not appear during Free Spins. But you can get the Special Features.

Finally, if you do not want to wait for Free Spins, you can trigger them using Buy Feature – this option costs 100x the stake and is available in select markets.

We generally enjoy fantasy slots, and we generally enjoy NetEnt slots. Golden Realms is a fantasy NetEnt slot, which means we had a good chance of loving the game. And we did enjoy it, honestly, only not as much as we expected. In truth, the game is a bit repetitive, so we completely understand why NetEnt included the three special features in the game booster set. Free Spins, for a game of this calibre, are not enough.

And the special features are fun; they certainly made the game better.
